With the hi-tech industry moving rapidly towards an increasingly connected world (Internet-of-Things, Industry 4.0), as Technical Communicators we have the opportunity to help users understand advanced products and systems by offering concise pieces of information close to their point-of-use. Help Topics are one way of getting a big step closer to this goal. The presenter works as a ‘lone writer’ for Spectracom, a mid-sized IT manufacturing company in Rochester, NY. He will explain how he converted the page-based content of Spectracom’s existing documentation using the software tool MadCap Flare and will discuss the question if this case study is suitable as a model for other companies in a similar situation. He will also raise the question if all the work was worth it, and how users have been adopting to the new documentation format.
